LNG terminals Linde Engineering has vast experience in the design, development and construction of natural gas processing plants, including LNG terminal units with dedicated import, storage, loading and export facilities.

Liquefied natural gas (LNG) is a secure and eco-friendly energy source. Produced in liquefaction plants close to the natural gas reserves and transported mainly by ship, LNG is imported through LNG terminals and delivered to local markets. The gas is distributed from the terminal to the customer in liquid or gaseous form, and this may require additional processing steps.

LNG terminal marine installations ensure the safe berthing of ships transporting LNG and import the gas via loading arms into the terminal facilities.

The most visible part of a terminal is the LNG storage unit. Flat-bottom tanks designed to cope with the cryogenic temperature of LNG at atmospheric pressure are the most common solution for the intermediate storage of large volumes of LNG.

Submerged cryogenic pumps installed in the storage tank export the LNG from the tank to regasification or filling stations. The terminal’s trailer and rail car filling stations act as further distribution hubs. Alternatively, trucks and ships can fill up on LNG directly at fuelling stations installed at the terminal.

LNG can also be vaporised and fed into a pipeline network serving residential and industrial customers. Compressed natural gas (CNG) can be generated and stored for use as vehicle fuel or for further distribution to the end customer.

We design terminal safety features including installations to capture boil-off gas that is released at terminals. Our integrated design approach ensures highly competitive terminal operations.
